Creationism –vs- Evolution

Scientific evidence points to evolution as the creator of man.  However, texts from numerous religions claim some god as the creator of man.  Which one of these do you give credit to?

The creationism story claims God, an all knowing and all powerful entity decided to be the creator of the universe.  The earth and other planets were formed to supply the humans with a place to exist.  This fairy tale may sound glorious to small children, but the realization of absolute incompetent design is easy to point out after you remove the rose colored glasses.

There is wondrous and magnificent beauty throughout the universe, but there is also ugliness, sadness, desperation and horror.  We live and die according to the laws of nature, not to the laws of gods.  A god worthy of my reverence could never have created such scenarios of death and destruction that occur globally on a daily basis.  Life is absolutely wonderful at times and maybe there is some god that created the good parts.  But what rules the bad parts?  The nature of the universe and evolution are the only logical answer.

The few humans that are lucky enough to make it out of the womb are likely to suffer throughout their lives.  Many fail to make it to adulthood due to a plethora of simple reasons including death from bacteria or viruses, violent crime, jihad, witch-burning, car crashes, cancer, heart attacks and thousands of other imaginable ways.  We are all housed on a planet that continually kills its inhabitants from earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis, volcanoes, lightening and fire and the list can go on.  I cannot and will not accept that a kind and loving deity created such a poorly designed environment for humans.

Religions around the world claim their gods to be all knowing, all powerful and all loving.  Evolution on the other hand has no claims of omniscience, omnipotence or unconditional love, and only follows simple rules of natural selection and survival of the fittest.  Religions lay claim to the good parts of life and some also take credit for their God’s wrath.  Did your god create cruelty or is cruelty created from the natural processes of the universe?

It is too late in my life to ever believe in gods.  A god worthy of love and respect cannot be the same god that created humans and placed them in this death trap called the universe.  Maybe in my next life….

Evolution ROCKS!
