Music to my Ears

We are all aware that words have a lot of power and I am very excited about some of the wording being used by one very high profile person, President Obama. The president gave a speech in Indonesia recently and he used the words “E Pluribus Unum” and tied those words to our country's national motto. Uh oh, the religious right is not very happy about that. There are many news stories covering this speech and can be easily found by an internet search. I have added one link to a letter from the Congressional Prayer Caucus complaining because the President did not use the words “in God We Trust” as being the official national motto.

I took the time to send President Obama a thank you note for using secular language and encouraged more use of inclusive wording in his speeches instead of using divisive religious wording.

I was VERY pleased to hear President Obama use secular language again in his recent speech on the day the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy was repealed. The words he used that day, and during other speeches, were “out of many, one”. I see this usage as a direct slap in the face to the Congressional Prayer Caucus.

I am still smiling from “ear to ear”. There are a few aspects about our President that I do not like but I sure do appreciate his secular leanings. Thank you again Mr. President for helping strengthen the wall separating church and state.
